Industrial hemp is a genetically distinct variety of cannabis sativa banned in 1937 and further restricted in 1970.
It is a competitive source of paper, biofuel, plastic, and other products. In 2014 $620 million of hemp products were imported into the US that could have been produced here if not for the ban.
